What to Expect During Your First Chiropody Appointment at the Port Dover Foot Clinic

Visiting a foot specialist for the first time can feel a little intimidating — especially if you’re not sure what to expect. At the Port Dover Foot Clinic, we’re dedicated to making your first chiropody appointment comfortable, informative, and focused on getting your feet feeling their best.

1. Before You Arrive

When you book your first appointment, we’ll ask you to complete a short intake form with your medical history, current medications, and information about your foot concerns. If you have any medial imagining, be sure to bring this along! Wearing pants that can be rolled up or shorts can help make the assessment easier. Bringing a list of questions or symptoms you’ve noticed can help ensure we address everything you came in for.

2. Warm Welcome & Conversation

When you arrive, our friendly team will greet you and help you complete any final paperwork. You and your Chiropodist will then have a conversation about your reason for visiting, whether it’s pain, discomfort, difficulty walking, or concerns about your nails or skin. This discussion helps us understand your goals and priorities.

3. Thorough Foot & Lower Limb Assessment

Once you’re settled, we’ll perform a complete assessment of your feet and lower legs. This includes:

  • A detailed look at skin, nails, corns, calluses, or warts

  • Checking foot structure and how you walk

  • Assessing circulation, sensation, and joint motion

  • Evaluating overall foot function and biomechanics

This comprehensive exam helps us pinpoint the root cause of your concerns and not just the symptoms.

4. Personalized Discussion & Treatment Plan

After the assessment, your Chiropodist will explain what they observed and discuss treatment options that may help you. Whether it’s footwear advice, stretching/strengthening recommendations, prescription intervention, shockwave therapy, custom orthotics, or more advanced interventions, we’ll tailor your plan to your needs.

You’ll have the opportunity to ask questions, we encourage you to speak up so you feel confident and informed about the next steps.

Often, treatments will be conducted at the initial assessment, however some conditions may require follow up appointments, or a procedure may be booked at a later time.

If Custom Orthoitcs are indicated- the process can start at the initial assessment. This will include:

  1. A Biomechanical and gait analysis

  2. 3D scans or casting of the feet will be completed

  3. Collaborative planning for custom orthotic goals and comfort

  4. A deposit will be taken to start the manufacturing process

  5. A dispensing appointment will be booked to fit the orthotics into your footwear and discuss the break-in-process.

5. Next Steps & Follow-Up

Before you leave, we’ll outline what happens next, including follow-up appointments if needed. Many patients benefit from regular check-ins to maintain healthy feet and prevent problems before they become painful.
